What exactly is basketball?

Basketball is a limited-contact sport and is one of the most famous pastimes in the world. Counting amateur levels, basketball is the second most popular sport in all of the United States. Basketball is quite tough, strenuous and a very physically tiring game that requires a lot of running, jumping, catching, dribbling, shooting and pretty exceptional fitness levels. These are the reason why proper basketball team uniforms are designed the way they are as they are built to simply aid these tough individuals to perform their level best on the court.  Basketball sport played between 10 players (5 on each side) on a rectangular court. The object of the game is to shoot the ball through a hoop which is 18 inches in diameter which are mounted on a 10 feet high with a backboard (made out of tempered glass, acrylic or polycarbonate materials). The game was invented in 1891 by Doctor James Naismith. The object of the game is to out score your opponents during regular playing time which is a period of 40 minutes (divided into 4 quarters of 10 minutes each). The court is demarcated with numerous lines. The center lines and circle is the point where the game starts via a jump ball. The lines on the sides (sidelines) and the ends (baselines) denote the playing area.  Then there are the 3 point lines on either end of the court (outside of which if a player scores, is rewarded 3 points and scoring from the inside is awarded 2 points), the free throw lines (use for throwing the free throws when a defensive foul occurs in the D. Free throws are rewarded 1 point) and finally the lane lines. The lane lines are boundaries running from the free-throw line to the baseline and are occupied by the non-shooters to score or gather a rebound when the free throws occur. Basketball requires very fewer uniforms and accessories. The only things required by the federation are basketball team uniforms, proper basketball shoes (high ankle shoes). The players normally wear their basketball team uniforms which consist of a basketball jersey and basketball shorts. These uniforms are lightweight and are made of breathable, stretchable and moisture absorbent fabrics that aid the different fast and swift movements of the players.  The sleeveless nature of the jerseys help the players in extending their arms and dribble and shoot with ease and the shorts help in all the running and jumping and give space to the legs of the players. The uniforms have to be in the team’s respective colors and have the name and number of the player at the back. This helps players, referees and the people in the stands recognize the players and the teams. The basketball shoes are lightweight, ankle-high and have a wider surface area. The lightweight and ankle-high nature of the shoes protect the basketballers ankles and helps them carry out they’re in-game like running, jumping, twisting and turning and also saves the ankles of the athlete from bearing all the strain alone. So these are the basic rules and regulations you need to know before you start on playing this amazing and ever- populating game.
